Tingling/pins and needles while on estrogen
I saw on your website that estradiol can cause pins and needles. My ob/gyn said she had never heard of this before.
I started on 0.05 mg estradiol patches twice a week for osteoporosis/osteopenia and about 2 months later I experienced pins and needles in both legs, both arms and my tongue. Sometimes I had a feeling of coolness in my extremities as well, although I didn't feel cold. It was like a menthol coolness. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
I stopped the patch when it started disturbing my sleep, and the pins and needles have subsided substantially. My ob/gyn and GP as well think what I am experiencing is anxiety, not a response to estrogen.

Hello-
Thank you for your post. While a tingling/pins and needles sensation can be associated with peri/post menopause, as discussed in this article, it is not known to be related to estradiol. It is interesting to note that this sensation subsided for you when you discontinued the estradiol. If it returns, it is best to continue working with your healthcare team to determine the cause and best approach for treatment or management.
