Do Gennev providers prescribe compounded “bio-identical” hormones?
The short answer is no.
The longer answer is: Compounded hormones are no more natural, plant-based or adjustable than FDA-regulated hormones, and they are less safe because the dosing is unregulated and variable. They are made from the SAME synthetic hormones generated by pharmaceutical companies. All hormones (with the exception of the conjugated equine estrogens) are based on a plant cholesterol molecule that was originally found in yams. The FDA-regulated “bio-identical” hormones are safe and effective, and this is what we prescribe. As physicians, we love to talk with patients about this and go over how we choose an HRT regimen for each woman.
